Artist's Comments

Well, after a long wait I'm finally finished. Sadly, I'm unable to scan it as a) it's too big for my scanner and b) my usual method of splicing two pieces together won't seem to work now as they're scanning in two different tones and I just can't get them right. So, I was reduced to taking a digital photo of it which makes me very sad as I'm actually pretty proud of this one and I would like to scan it to show the detail. Hopefully I'll figure out a way to do it at some point.

No drawing has ever taken this long for me to finish. I don't think I spent more hours on it than I usually do I just had to do those hours over long periods of time. I don't even think my son looks like he does in that picture anymore, thats how long it's been! He crawls all over the place now and is trying to walk and talk and at the time I took that picture to draw he was barely sitting up on his own. I was able to finish the drawing thanks to his independence and jacks big music show on noggin.... Sam's favorite tv show. Gave me one solid hour of drawing in the morning! lol

I hope to start something new soon, I have a few things in mind. I just have to pick one, and hopefully it won't take me as long to finish. I definitely have more time now that he's older.

As for the drawing:

:bulletpurple: Size : 9X12 drawn on 11X14 paper
:bulletpurple: Used: Graphite (had to get used to them again) 6b-hb, gum eraser, tortillion, and cotton swabs.
:bulletpurple:Time: your guess is as good as mine

Again, it really is much better than my camera picked up. It was hard to get the lighting right to get a picture of it where it wouldn't glare. It still looks kind of blury. I worked hard on making the towel look like terrycloth and get the stitching on the boat on his towel to look right. Whether it's perfect or not, it's a personal achievement... it was hard to believe that I could get back to drawing after my son was born and this just proves to me that it's possible and I can have the best of both worlds and I can't wait to hang it up on my wall, the first of many drawings I will do of my son!

Thanks for looking!

If you want, you can email me the two different scans and I'll fix the tones to match, splice it together, and email a complete jpeg back to you ;) As I have a very small flatbed scanner myself, and I seem to draw in sizes bigger than my scanner, I've kind of become an old pro at doing that for my own work *grin* So let me know if you want me to help you with this. It's great, by the way!!

It's really really cute and greatly drawn. I like how you did the fabric, looks a bit fluffy, especially on top.

it's nice to see something new from you! This is adorable, and the whole drawing looks really soft, the textures are very well rendered. Your son is such a cutie!
